Distance Learning System


The Faculty of Economics and Information, Gifu Shotoku University, implemented a distance learning system in the campus networks and internet, in April 1998.

The most costly and powerful one is the use of communication satellites. The least expensive, most popular and open method is the use of internet and/or intranet lines with the TCP/IP protocol. We adopted the latter method.

There are many universities around the world that experimenting via internet with only text and image. But, we believe that the essence of distance learning lies in interactive visual communication.

The Faculty of Economics and Information, Gifu Shotoku University uses the streaming technologies offered by RealNetworks's RealSystemG2 to deliver integrated video and audio in distance education.

Room 310 in Gifu Shotoku University is designed so as to broadcast live lectures to remote internet clients at 28 kilo or more bps with RealNetworks's RealSystemG2.

Students and partner can access lectures with RealNetworks's RealplayerG2 on the internet.
