The Campus and Its Outskirts

We have two other Faculties and Junior College attached to Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University. One is the Faculty of Education founded in 1972. The other is the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Affairs founded in 1990. There is the Graduate School of International Culture. These two Faculties and the Graduate School are situated on the different campus from that of the Faculty of Economics and Information.

The Gifu Campus, where the Faculty of Economics and Information and the Junior College are located, is in Gifu City, capital of Gifu Prefecture including the Mino and the Hida Provinces along the river of Nagaragawa in the central Honshu ( Main Island in Japan ). The Gifu campus is in the historic and beautiful Mino Province close to Nagoya and Toyota. From here one can visit Kyoto or Tokyo in about forty minutes or two hours respectively by the super express train(Shinkansen). Takayama City is located in the Hida Province, noted for an old-fashioned Kyoto, where rows of traditional houses are preserved in this high-land city. Needless to say, one of the tourist attractions is Gifu Castle rising top on the mountain Kinkazan.

The Gifu Castle gives us some idea of its former splendor. In the river Nagaragawa the water is used for irrigation : Cormorant Fishing ( Ukai ), a popular tourist attraction, takes place from May to October.
